Our client's home in Naples Florida recently received the LEED for Homes Gold Certification, by the U.S. Green Building Council LEED is the most viable green rating systems recognized by general contractors, engineers, architects, landscape architects, environmental professionals, commissioning authorities, and designers. BCB Homes in southwest Florida, a recognized high-end residential builder, worked with E3 Building Sciences and the design team to validate and certify the home through a point system based on: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, and innovative design. The key items that gave this project its silver certification were the use of high efficiency window glass, a high efficiency HVAC system, cutting edge construction and insulation, solar and geothermal energy, LED lighting, salt water pool, green label plus carpeting with low VOC pads, low emission paints and stains plus the use of certified wood, and native landscaping.
All contractors should take these initial steps to reduce energy consumption, increase water efficiency, and increase indoor air quality regardless of the point system because green building construction is one more step toward creating a better environment and a safer home for our children and children's children. Not everyone can commit to a LEED certification but Ck Interior Design llc can help you make decisions toward increased water efficiency by selecting double flush toilets, help you minimize indoor air pollution by incorporating low emission stains, paints, and carpeting options in your design and can assist you in reducing your overall environmental impact by showing you several materials and selections made from renewable resources.
