Our goal for this project is to transform a 1978 raised ranch to an Asian styled contemporary home by using natural and spa-like finishes. The home was recently renovated by the prior owner but it was not well executed nor was it consistent in style. They had combined the use of flutes on the stair railings with knotty pine doors and upgraded the kitchen with granite counters but left the original linoleum flooring in the bathrooms. Our clients were not keen on what had or had not been done to the property but loved the location of their newly acquired home. The homeowner's realized early on that this 1978 raised ranch could never be the hard lined contemporary they always dreamed of but could easily be transitioned to an Asian spa-like contemporary by adding exposed wood beams plus stacked stone to the two fireplaces, and by changing the finishes and lighting throughout.
A small stream flows through the backyard which provides irrigation water rights during the spring, summer and fall. The only problem is that the tranquil sounds of the stream can only be enjoyed through a small guest bedroom window presently. We all agreed it would be best to scrap the interior west wing layout and create one large master suite, a luxury bathroom, and a small office. We would also add two nine foot sliding glass doors from the kitchen that would open up to a large newly constructed covered wood deck which would overlook the stream.
